Cheryl L. West CHA Master Riding Instructor
Cheryl Lynn West was born in Australia in 1971. She moved to the States in 1976 where she grew up
in the Los Angeles area. There at 13 she started western horse back riding. When she was 19 she
enlisted in the US Army and served on the East Coast for 8 years. During that time she studied English
and Jumping. In 1998 she move to Oklahoma where she picked up her certification with Certified
Horsemanship Association (click on above logo for more info) Cheryl earned her Masters in all levels
of horsemanship. She is an Assistant CHA Clinician Instructor who travels to certify other instructors.
She is also a Level 3 (top level) Therapeutic Instructor Certification with ACI status. She hopes to use
that to help disabled riders (as well as her able bodied) succeed in Dressage. Cheryl has just accepted
a position at American Therapeutic Riding Center where she will be instrumental in developing their
horsemanship program.
In Oklahoma she started competing in Competitive Trail Riding, Endurance Racing and Dressage. She
currently studies Dressage and some reining with several well known instructors. She actively pursued
Training, Hoof Trimming, and Teaching about 7 years ago. Cheryl has competed well in the Welsh
Shows, Open Shows, Dressage, CTRs and other disciplines. Cheryl trains some outside horses but
tries to concentrate on the training of the ranch horses. She is currently training a 5 year old Welsh
mare Cartwheel's Belle Star and together took 1st in Open Division, in Belles first 3 debut shows. She
recently picked up vaulting as a supplement to her program.
Cheryl teaches foundation riding and is particular about maintaining safety. Her emphasis is on riding
from the inside out, through rhythm, balance and precise muscle control. She specializes in children,
and willingly works with ADD and ADHD having two of her own. Adults are a welcome addition and
enjoys teaching them as well.
Cheryl also teaches and performs farrier work for a select few clients. She is very educated in many
farrier styles and specializes in a balanced, well trimmed hoof. See hoof trimming for more.
She is an accomplished rider but prefers to see her abilities through her students accomplishments.
